Bhanu Choudhrie: Giving Back to the Community Following Life Threatening Surgery

Two decades following his heart transplant, he is the only heart transplant recipient who has lived the longest. While many people have undergone similar operations in the past, very few have been successful even with the advances in medical technology. Bhanu Choudhrie second chance in life has led him to take a positive approach in life like taking care of his general well-being.

Following his transplant, he promised to be a source of inspiration for organ recipients and donors. In 2010, Bhanu established the Choudhrie Family Foundation to encourage more people to be organ donors. This organization is also involved in supporting different health education programs and medical projects in the United Kingdom, the United States and other countries around the world.

One of the special programs is the #OrganWill campaign striving to get over 62,500 organ donors. By attaining this goal, they are hoping to save over 500,000 lives. Bhanu still dedicates most of his time to different philanthropic efforts, including his charities in the education and medical fields in the United States and India. In 2013, the Hon Theresa and Member of Parliament in the United Kingdom awarded him the Asian Business Lifetime Achievement Award.

Bhanu Choudhrie has also written a book titled “A Tale of Life, Love, and Destiny,” which has gone ahead to become a top bestseller on Amazon. The book delves deeper into his transplant experience and life afterwards. Over the years, Bhanu Choudhrie has encountered many transplant recipients who’ve inspired him with their attitude and ambition.

Among the most notable stories is a woman who participated in a marathon a few years following heart surgery. The other great theme in his book is the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Bhanu Choudhrie acknowledges that adopting a healthy lifestyle is crucial for extending the lives of patients with a transplanted heart because it minimizes the need for a second transplant.
