According to their website, their faith catalyzes their giving. They believe in helping in the areas of community, arts, justice, leadership, and of course, education.
In 2015, Forbes magazine listed the DeVos family at #24 for their list of America’s top givers. At that time, their lifetime giving was counted at $139 million. In addition to supporting charter schools, DeVos is also an advocate of school vouchers. This type of program allows children from low-income families the choice of using a voucher that would pay for them to attend a private school. She firmly believes that economic status should not stand in the way of a child from obtaining a high-quality education. Since so many low-income areas are known for their low-quality education, DeVos feels this method would help to level the playing field.
Devos is devoted to helping children through education. She severed as chair for American Federation for Children (AFC). They are known for their national advocacy of school choice through vouchers and supporting scholarship tax credit programs.
Betsy continues her work today as Secretary of Education. Her hard work and dedication have finally led her to a position in which she will be able to offer real change for American children.
